Observations after 5 days of Dana
By dana | September 21, 2007

- You can never have too many saved drafts in your Dashboard.
- While most lists will warn against blogging while delirious from exhaustion, after a drink or two or when generally in a bad mood, I’ve found those posts to be my most popular…and I’m not alone in thinking this check out MattJMCD’s new post Hitting Your Stride.
- When you write a post that is almost guaranteed to get some thumbs ups from Stumble gods make sure you discover the site yourself first to avoid said post being put into the “paganism” topic…not a huge amount of pagan traffic today
- Make sure and keep your blog buddies happy. They can change your life (or make you more money than John Chow)!
- Let your list posts sit there for a good 10 minutes before hitting Publish…inevitably you will decide to cut a number or add something. Your fellow bloggers are smart, and they’ll catch your premature publication via your URL and tease you about it
- It’s awesome to get to have your own blog that isn’t directly associated with any of your businesses so you can be more of your true self and get a bit random!
- When in doubt, write about StumbleUpon.
- When you surround yourself with great people, it’s possible to see as much success in the first 5 days of a new blog as you have in the past year of your other blogs!
Thanks for a great first week everyone! I’ll save the first week stats for later this weekend…but suffice to say I’m am in awe of all of you that have helped me launch this blog with a bang!

Nice work and thanks for the link. I feel like your reaction to my post is a softer version of the famous Hunter S. Thompson quote.

I love the uncluttered look of this blog…many of the other ‘blogging about blogging’ blogs are so cluttered that I get distracted. I must say…you also have the best and funniest photos with your posts

LOL - I have a bunch of saved posts in the Dashboard too.
You’re so right about StumbleUpon - one time I noticed a Problogger post in the porn category.

Hey I caught that premature publishing too
I was wondering if you were momentarily lost in the large number of drafts you had ready.

And a heck of a week it was! My dear, you don’t cease to impress me with your articles - good stuff!
The 10 minutes before publishing advice is VERY good - for emails, too. The problem is remembering that tip in the moment…

@Matt Other than I don’t recommend violent blogging
@Danielle Thanks, I appreciate the feedback especially since this blog is so new!
@Nathania Yep, I’m trying to decide whether I should try and grab that traffic with some other “pagan” posts
@YC Nope, I was just careless
@Kate Thanks so much! That means a lot coming from such a great writer…I know maybe once I’ve been blogging this much for another year or two, I’ll be able to get past the “I’m so excited about this post. I’ve got to publish it NOW!” moments!
